PASSION

As Wagner Fundraisings’ inaugural blog, I want to talk about PASSION. When people ask me, “how do you raise money for a living? I’d rather have my finger nails pulled out”. I always tell them that I’ve never thought about it as raising money, rather advocating for a very good cause. And then, the person I am talking with can make a decision whether it is a cause that is close to their heart and would love to support as well.  You see, it all comes down to my PASSION for a cause, the money will follow.

Any successful organization that survives and realizes its ambitions is built on a good foundation and passionate leadership. They are well-planned and designed with sound principles to be sustainable long-term.

Having said that, the driving element behind such an organization is the most important  – the inspired idea or mission statement.  A mission to fill a need, solve a problem, create an opportunity, to better the world!  You likely have that already if you are reading this.  This inspired idea will give you the drive and PASSION behind your efforts that will not only actualize the idea, but will also create the structure around your idea which will sustain it. Keep that word “fundraising” locked up; replace it with PASSION”. The money will follow.

When people donate to an organization they are half investing in the mission and half investing their faith in the person/people behind the mission. You, your staff and board members and the PASSION you all exude.

This is our starting point for creating a fundraising program that will realize your organization’s ambitions – the PASSION behind it.  Your idea.  You.

So, today, tomorrow, next week and next month – always remind yourself of why you are doing what you are doing and share it with all who will listen.  Then others, those who see and feel your PASSION will want to be a part of it.
